First Girl's Sports Series On Nintendo DS

I've written about how Ubisoft wanted to start putting out more games geared toward girls, so when I read this, I had to comment on it as well.

It seems that some sports games are going to be released on the Nintendo DS for 'tween' girls called Ener-G, which will be a series of games focusing on socialization, and will be about three activites: gymnastics, dancing, and horseback riding, which are supposedly really popular among girls in that age range.

Funny, I don't recall my friends or myself caring much about gymnastics and horseback riding then, or now, for that matter.

Ener-G Dance Squad will have the girls trying on their 'dancing potential' by working with a coach to develop new dance moves and learn how to choreograph dances. I guess that isn't so bad, I did love to dance at that age...even if some of the music made me cringe.

The name Ener-G Gym Rockets sounds silly when I say it or think it, and I don't see how thrilling pretending to be a gymnast would be, but maybe that's just because I grew up on games like 'Zombies Ate My Neighbors' and prefer to slash, hack, and shoot things in games. You know, the stuff you can't do in reality, unlike gymnastics. Okay, I assume it would be ideal for someone who physically can't do that, but even then...they may get bored with it like I would.

I guess some girls dream of owning a horse, so Ener-G Horse Riders could be fun for them, but I don't really know how long someone could sit and play with a horse on a game, unless it's going to let you trample people, like the guards on Assassin's Creed.

I agree with the writer on DailyGame.net, who stated:
"It's nice to see publishers avoid stereotypes when creating their DS games, isn't it?"

Indeed.

I never really saw how games are 'geared' towards guys, so doing it for girls seems a bit stupid to me
But I suppose, uh ... to each their own, or something
