It's about damned time!
With the arrival of Chrome, Firefox had a lot of catching up to do. And did they deliver. Firefox 3.1b1 was released today, and to quote the news "Damn it's fast!" Firefox 3.1 is based on the Gecko 1.9.1 rendering engine. The engine itself has been in development for roughtly 6 months. The new improvements randge from web standards, to CSS 3 properties, new tab-switching previews, and more! Firefox 3.1 also adds support for new web technologies such as the video and audio elements, the W3C Geolocation API, JavaScript query selectors, web worker threads, SVG transforms and offline applications. It's also FUCKING FAST. With a little tweaking, and if you're brave enough, you can turn on TraceMonkey, it's like Firefox on steroids. TraceMonkey isn't the only improvement, it's a huge improvement on Firefox 3. It's still in beta though, so be careful. |

As far as the actual topic of the news post, I am excited, but being on Linux, I can't tell if I'm getting that goodness or not if I install the beta... So I'll just wait until 3.1 final comes out, and it comes out as an update to my Ubuntu.

Trust me, I tried to upgrade to FF 3.0 as soon as I got the chance, but I still wasn't able to tell the difference until it came in through the repository...
