ATMs no Longer Safe?

Hackers have broken into CitiBank's network of ATMs and stolen millions of dollars and user's PINs. This shows that at least some banks aren't encrypting their PINs as well as they could or should be. ATMs are becoming more and more based on Windows OS (never a good thing) in order to be remotely accessed to be diagnosed and repaired, and it seems that the hackers were able to use this remote access to obtain the PINs, possibly got them during the unencrypted transfer of the PINs to the main computer, or even obtained administrator access to the main computers allowing them free access to any and all the PINs they needed.

            If a thief wants money, he'll get the money, one way or another. Nothing is impenetrable, it just isn't. All goes back down to the fact that it's all designed by humans.

                there's difference between script kiddies that you can find all over the place and actual people who know what they are doing. Here they found out some hackers stole the files so it were probably script kiddies. If the server ran Unix it would've been a bit harder for them to hack it since there are so many different versions and not all versions got the same vulnerability unlike windows... :s

                    Who says it was script kiddies? They may have been expecting it to be a bit more complicated but it turns out it wasn't. What I'm saying is that people will focus on certain downfalls (i.e. Windows) but don't care less about anyone else and their problems. Humans are humans, imperfect and liable to make mistakes. These things happen. There are huge number of problems and disasters that have occurred because a human was involved.

                        face it, it are usually script kiddies who get caught. People who carefully plan and hack don't get caught as fast.

                          Neither would I. Why? Because they would have originally been designed by and modelled on humans, but we're all flawed aren't we? Computers will never be perfect, nothing man made ever will because it's just impossible haha.
