Blizzard's Worldwide Invitational - Paris 2008 - StarCraft II Evolving Design

That's enough (for now) about Diablo 3. It's now time to concentrate on Blizzard's other highly-anticipated upcoming release, the one announced at last year's Worldwide Invitational in Korea.
Executive Vice President Rob Pardo takes the stage and settles in to explain a few things about StarCraft II. Sounds like the guys behind the scenes are itching to re-design the StarCraft idea from the ground up, but still keeping the pace and feeling that's attached to the franchise. Part of the way they're doing this is to introduce new units, taking that as an opportunity to make the differences within the races as distinct as possible. Each of the three races - Zerg, Protoss and Terran - are very different, and each new unit emphasises the distinctions, as well as obviously bringing in new strategies, and different ways to utilise otherwise familiar aspects of the game. The designers, when introducing the new units, threw out any idea of obvious balance, making sure that each unit only belonged to one race (and there are no equivalent units for the other races) in order to emphasise the extreme differences between the three.
