First Look at Windows 7

At D6, an electronics conference in Carlsbad, California, Microsoft unveiled the first look at w=Windows 7, the successor to Vista. After complete silence they revealed a bit showing the touch functionality of Windows 7. In addition to the peek, they also announced when it will be released: 2009, confirmed by multiple high echelon Microsoft officers as the expected release.

          I think it's because of vista that it's coming out. They already lost a ton of money on vista, and it's ruining their rep (with whatever people don't already know the crappiness that is windows programming), so they were forced to come out with it to save face.

            This is what I think Windows 7 is going to be like, for example 98 was one of the best windows, then 2000/ME came out which was a total failure. Shortly after they released XP which was a huge success.

            Going by MS track record

            XP= 98
            Vista= 2000/Me
            Windows 7= XP

            ???

                Yeah, I think it will be a success, but I don't know that it will bring back the customers that m$ has lost from the vista scandal.

                I hope Windows 7 is a decent system. Vista is pretty, but, in terms of usability, I shouldn't need to disable a bunch of things to drop how much RAM it eats to a reasonable level. With my projected career path, Windows is standard and I'd rather not hate the OS I have to use daily.

                    Yeah, for sure. I really don't like vista, and I'm avoiding it as much as humanly possible, and doing well so far. But I'll need to upgrade soon I think, and I'd rather not do so to vista. Plus mac is better, I just wish it was more developed for so I could stick with it permanently.

                        Well, you could get a Mac and then Bootcamp Windows, or run it virtually.

                                My thing about Bootcamp (or running a dual boot of Windows and Linux), is that I don't want to have to reboot to use the other OS. I really liked it when I had both a Windows laptop and a Debian laptop 'cause I could use them at the same time. :B
