One of the blogs I read on occasion to scope out some extra news bits discussed playing Dead Frontier, and I decided to give it a try for discussion here.
As it turns out, the entire thing is a browser-based game. It seems to work alright in Firefox, but it's a bit sluggish on loading various screens. The game is still in it's beta stages, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt on that. I entered in as Anarya, a First Level Police Officer that managed to survive this zombie uprising. The first thing I did was investigate the Storage building, which turns out to be a bank, followed by the Records building, which is just that...records of people's score thus far. Moving on to the Meeting Hall at the edge of this little outpost, I find that it's just a forum for chatter, which doesn't catch my interest, so I leave the minuscule and inactive outpost for the Inner City (Woo-hoo!) Suddenly, I am launched into a flash game (unexpected, admittedly), and after reading the instructions (destructions?!), I soldier on, flashlight out and Beretta drawn, only to immediately get attacked. The Beretta? It does nothing. The zombie chews me up like a dog attacking a raw steak. I hang in limbo above my bloody corpse for about seven seconds, then respawn back in the crappy outpost. Luckily, no one looted me, so I still have the small $30 I started out with, and my gun/flashlight, however useless they may be. I go back onto the Inner City, and this time I do manage to take out 2 Zombies before completely exhausting my ammo, but then three attack me while I duck behind a crate to reload. At this point, I just decide to stop. Granted, I am determined to go back and shoot those pricks in the head for ripping me apart, but a girl has to eat and grab a smoke, so we'll end things here for now. In conclusion, the game has some potential, for a browser-based MMO, but at this moment, you cannot turn around in a circle to defend yourself against a swarm, you can only move forward, back up, and step to the sides. Oh, you have 3 zombies coming at you from all sides? Too bad! Enjoy being lunch. If you feel a need to grumble with me, go to the Dead Frontier site and have a...well, something. |
