Officials from Sony have confirmed that version 2.41 of the PlayStation 3 firmware has now been released online, following the withdrawal of the keenly anticipated version 2.40.

Sony had been forced to withdraw availability of the v2.40 firmware update after reports that the software was causing some consoles to freeze when loading a game. The number of complaints was reportedly small, with many consumers indicating that the update had installed without problems.

Gamers keen to get playing the highly anticipated Killzone 2 on the PS3 will have to bare some bad news. Sony has said that it will not be releasing the game until February 2009.
