Officials from Sony have confirmed that version 2.41 of the PlayStation 3 firmware has now been released online, following the withdrawal of the keenly anticipated version 2.40.
Sony had been forced to withdraw availability of the v2.40 firmware update after reports that the software was causing some consoles to freeze when loading a game. Sony is opening up its Playstation 3 platform and has announced it will allow brands to advertise on the medium. The deal could be worth $100 million over three years to Sony Computer Entertainment America, Foster City, Calif.

Microsoft is rumored to bring Hotmail, Windows Live Mail, Live Messenger video chat and support for "motion sensor devices" to the Xbox 360 as part of a spring update. Gamers keen to get playing the highly anticipated Killzone 2 on the PS3 will have to bare some bad news. Sony has said that it will not be releasing the game until February 2009.
