This morning, we have a first-look at the assets that'll be packed with Guitar Hero World Tour, currently scheduled for release in "Spring" of this year (who knows, it may arrive before that other game involving musical instrument peripherals...)
Currently in development for Wii, PS3, PS2 and Xbox 360, we've got some pretty pictures of the guitar you'll be rockin' out on, the new microphone and - excitingly - the new drums. That's right - not only does the new Guitar Hero have a newly desi . . . Read more

The Ace Combat guys are working on a flyer for the Wii that's inspired by anime. The reasoning behind this is that Mamoru Oshii, who directed Ghost in the Shell, is coming out with a film called The Sky Crawlers. The film is based on a series of novels about dogfighter pilots in a fiction-based setting in a WWII style.

SEGA Europe has told Eurogamer that The Crucible: Evil Within is not the game Silicon Knights is making for it.
This was another of the leaks from the Intellisponse market research, which contained a video supposedly showing footage from an action-adventure many believed to be made by the Too Human developer. "I can confirm that SK are not working on The Crucible for SEGA," a spokesperson told us, unable to shed any light on what the developer is making, then. However, comments made by . . . Read more
According to the Rumortoid (not to mention a few other sites), Silicon Knights is working on a game called The Crucible: The Evil Within, possibly for the 360.
I haven't been able to find out too many details about it yet, but it appears to be another horror based game with a good bit of slashing and hacking. Rumortoid links to a video, but it isn't the best quality in the world. However, seeing as I enjoyed (loved!) Eternal Darkness from Silicon Knights, I am keeping my fingers crossed an . . . Read more
Namco Bandai announced today that the classic gorefest Splatterhouse will be making its return on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sometime in 2009.
A press release from Namco said that the next-gen version of the arcade and TurboGrafx 16 classic will feature a melee combat system complete with grappling and combos. The infamous 2x4 wooden board also makes a comeback some 20 years after the original, as well as the ability to use the limbs of your enemies as weapons to dispatch them and, in . . . Read more
The sequel to Ubisoft's action-adventure title Beyond Good & Evil will appeal to casual gamers moreso than the first game, Ubisoft president Yves Guillemot said at the recent Ubidays press event in Paris.
"We saw with Beyond Good & Evil that so many customers were extremely happy with the game," said Guillemot to Next-Gen. "We had a different audience at that time. We had more core gamers than casual gamers than we have today." "We think the game was probably a little too difficult for the . . . Read more

Nintendo has apologised for the WiiFit calling people fat.
Apparently people have taken offense to their 'game' calling them fat, after it's calculated their BMI (body mass index). The Daily Mail has published a news story about it, which is no surprise, and found here. Anyone with half an ounce of sense knows the BMI is going to be wrong in any number of cas . . . Read more
The pulling power of Games Workshop’s futuristic Warhammer 40,000 franchise is surprising. As a boy, I dabbled in this world, until I got fed up with grown men shouting “Waaaaaaaggggh” while hunched over their collection of expertly painted Orks.
So I left it all behind, but never lost the theoretical interest in that sort of thing (not the shouting, the gaming). 15 years later, Dawn of War II is moving the franchise further into the digital sphere, after the very successful first itera . . . Read more

Goblins aren't the most well treated of fantasy races. Usually depicted as savages hell bent on carving up dwarves and anyone else chancing their arm at some good old fashioned dungeon crawling, green skins, it would be fair to say, don't enjoy a good press. Well, that's all about to change. Firefly Studios, of Stronghold fame, is attempting to sprinkle some positive PR on the misunderstood goblin race with its new third-person PC and Xbox 360 action game Dungeon Hero. We unsheathed our broad sw

Blimey - what a mouthful. I guess we don't expect brevity in titles from the guys behind Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, but this is getting a little bit ridiculous. Still, at least the name is descriptive: Square-Enix's new Wii game is a member of the Dragon Quest family, Swords are involved and there is - not wishing to give the game away - a masked queen in a Tower of Mirrors at some point in the game. The key word in all this is Swords. Anyone wanting an epic RPG on the lines

Okay, normally, this kind of review passes under my radar, and barely registers on my list of things to read, but hey, I was swept in by the title.
Heather Chaplin of Next-Gen.biz has reviewed/discussed the book Grand Theft Childhood: The Surprising Truth about Violent Videogames, written by Lawrence Kutner and Cheryl Olson. Both Kutner and Olson are mental health experts, who conducted this research out of interest, rather than the champion one school of thought over another. Found [url=" . . . Read more |
