Joe Ybarra is one of the original game producers for Electronic Arts. His roster of achievements in award winning games include Bards Tale and Starflight, and his MMORPG credits include Shadowbane and Matrix Online. At the 2008 ION Games Conference, I finally tracked him down for a chat about Stargate Worlds which will be published by FireSky, a subsidiary of Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment.
“How,” I asked Joe Ybarra, Senior Vice President of Strategic Operations at Firesky, “did you . . . Read more
We're guessing that not too many kids list air traffic controller very high in their list of things they want to be when they grow up. It doesn't have that same kind of flare that astronaut, firefighter, or even airline pilot does. But maybe that's because in America we haven't had a successful series of air traffic controller video games. Well that problem might be solved later this year when Majesco releases Air Traffic Chaos, a game all about the stress-inducing, life in your hands job of bei

Codemasters today issued a press release advising that Overlord: Raising Hell now has a demo. Furthermore, you can head online to the PlayStation Store right now and check it out without spending a cent!
In the demo, players don the Overlord's illustrious armour and embark on a session of serious destruction in the once tranquil area of the Mellow Hills. As the delightfully despotic Overlord, players are supported by the Minions, a raucous horde of impish creatures. The Minions are more than . . . Read more
Eve Online will release The Empyrean Age this summer, and many (read: All) Eve fanatics are quivering with anticipation.I, personally, can say that I didn't really get a chance to immerse myself into the game (fourteen days just isn't enough time!), but I was impressed by the graphics, the overall play, and the fact that even on my slightly older computer, I didn't really have a lag problem at all. For shorts, I recommend at least the trial, if you haven't already done so. As an added . . . Read more
"If you bought a PlayStation 3 when it launched in November of 2006, there's a pretty good chance that you picked up a copy of Insomniac Games' Resistance: Fall of Man. The Burbank-based developer's first-person shooter was far and away the most impressive of the launch titles, first-party or otherwise. Although the game wasn't particularly innovative or groundbreaking, it was extremely polished and well-designed, something that couldn't be said for many of the system's initial titles. Not surpr

So, it seems that PS3 users will be able to upload videos a la YouTube.
In my opinion, you can expect misuse and naughty things! At any rate, here's the article: "Back in March, YouTube announced the release of new improved APIs to allow external websites to integrate YouTube videos more easily and in a more flexible, user-friendly way. But it wasn’t just websites being targeted, and with the unveiling of a deal with Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. which sees the Playstation 3 have . . . Read more
Among the video games Electronic Arts showed off in a press preview last week at the Supper Club in San Francisco was DeadSpace. And it was very bloody.
This is the survival-horror game that debuts on Halloween and is EA’s bid to create a cross-platform franchise. EA will be releasing a comic book series, animated TV show and video game based on the same DeadSpace universe. The blood and gore surprised me. We’re talking a spray of blood shooting out of the alien creatures as you shoot . . . Read more
Sega believes to have struck gold with the conclusion of a new deal with PlatinumGames. The independent studio was formed by former Capcom staff, with hit titles like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and Steel Battalion in their portfolio.
According to Sega, 4 news games are already in the making: one is scheduled to hit the Nintendo Wii, the second is for the DS, the third is aimed at the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The fourth one hasn’t even got a title, only a powerful name behind it . . . Read more
Nintendo has apologised for the WiiFit calling people fat.
Apparently people have taken offense to their 'game' calling them fat, after it's calculated their BMI (body mass index). The Daily Mail has published a news story about it, which is no surprise, and found here. Anyone with half an ounce of sense knows the BMI is going to be wrong in any number of cas . . . Read more
Joystiq has just confirmed with the Entertainment Software Association that LucasArts is no longer a member of the organization, but will still feature at E3. "Today, we can confirm that one of our members, LucasArts, has decided not to renew its membership. We value each member of our association, but respect the unique factors that led to LucasArts' decision," ESA Senior VP of Communications Rich Taylor said in a statement (copied in full after the break).

Kids like games. Kids like texting. Kids like Nintendo. Now Disney is hoping to turn this holy kiddie trinity into cold hard cash and a warm fuzzy virtual community with the introduction of DGamer.
A new service launched Friday that essentially brings the chat and connection features of MSN or Xbox Live to the younger set, DGamer isn't just an online community tailored for Disney fans. According to Disney spokesperson Michelle Jacob, the service can also turn anyone's Nintendo DS into a text- . . . Read more
One of the blogs I read on occasion to scope out some extra news bits discussed playing Dead Frontier, and I decided to give it a try for discussion here.
As it turns out, the entire thing is a browser-based game. It seems to work alright in Firefox, but it's a bit sluggish on loading various screens. The game is still in it's beta stages, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt on that. I entered in as Anarya, a First Level Police Officer that managed to survive this zombie uprising . . . Microsoft and LucasArts have released a demo in fan anticipation of the movie, slated to come out later this month. Of course, this means it will be for Windows users only, but what else could you expect, really?

The pulling power of Games Workshop’s futuristic Warhammer 40,000 franchise is surprising. As a boy, I dabbled in this world, until I got fed up with grown men shouting “Waaaaaaaggggh” while hunched over their collection of expertly painted Orks.
So I left it all behind, but never lost the theoretical interest in that sort of thing (not the shouting, the gaming). 15 years later, Dawn of War II is moving the franchise further into the digital sphere, after the very successful first itera . . . Read more

Every spring and fall Microsoft releases a large update and this year it is no different as Kotaku received a supposed insider e-mail containing a list of 80 new features being added to the console.
Most of the rumored updates and added features are pretty trivial, but the big addition will be supports for Hotmail, video chat f . . . Read more
As Sangue settles in to read her massive list of gaming news, one particular bit of news catches her eye, and the sound of her elated squeal can be heard as far out as England; no doubt scaring half the world in the process:
Silicon Knights shed some light on the possibility of an Eternal Darkness sequel at Microsoft's Gamer Day 2008. Silicon Knights boss Denis Dyack confirmed to TVG yesterday at Microsoft's spring gaming showcase that an Eternal Darkness sequel is a definite po . . . Read more
Goblins aren't the most well treated of fantasy races. Usually depicted as savages hell bent on carving up dwarves and anyone else chancing their arm at some good old fashioned dungeon crawling, green skins, it would be fair to say, don't enjoy a good press. Well, that's all about to change. Firefly Studios, of Stronghold fame, is attempting to sprinkle some positive PR on the misunderstood goblin race with its new third-person PC and Xbox 360 action game Dungeon Hero. We unsheathed our broad sw
