As some of you may have read from Sangue's news, microsoft is considering avatars for xbox live. One of the reasons for this is "SBG Channel". From what I could tell, it will feature game shows and other online competitive games. I just took a survey over it, and one of the mottos they had was 1 against 100, so it may support up to 100 people playing all at once. The survey also went over avatars as well, and made it seem as if they were explicitly connected to the SBG Channel.

EA Mobile is keen to launch its own mobile game subscription service, charging people the price of a single paid download every month (i.e. a fiver) for up to five downloads.

"The kind of subscription we are thinking about is that you'd subscribe to an EA channel, and you can download five games a month maybe, and the price for that might be similar to what you'd pay per download now," says Javier Ferreira, in an interview on PocketGamer.biz.

EA clearly believes gamers haven't been put off . . . Read more

SEGA Europe has told Eurogamer that The Crucible: Evil Within is not the game Silicon Knights is making for it.

This was another of the leaks from the Intellisponse market research, which contained a video supposedly showing footage from an action-adventure many believed to be made by the Too Human developer.

"I can confirm that SK are not working on The Crucible for SEGA," a spokesperson told us, unable to shed any light on what the developer is making, then.

However, comments made by . . . Read more

So, another rumor swirling around the vast sea that is the internet are Mii-style avatars for the XBOX. Now, personally, I don't really like the idea..but that's not the point here.

The point is that there is a possibility these things are being worked on, and like them or hate them, if they show up, they'll no doubt be here to stay.

After all, it is Microsoft, and they will do as they please.

At any rate, I got this bit of information from a few places, so I just stuck with the link fr . . . Read more

According to the Rumortoid (not to mention a few other sites), Silicon Knights is working on a game called The Crucible: The Evil Within, possibly for the 360.

I haven't been able to find out too many details about it yet, but it appears to be another horror based game with a good bit of slashing and hacking.

Rumortoid links to a video, but it isn't the best quality in the world. However, seeing as I enjoyed (loved!) Eternal Darkness from Silicon Knights, I am keeping my fingers crossed an . . . Read more

GNU/Linux continues to make further headway into Wall Street, as the New York Stock Exchange switched to Red Hat Enterprise Linux from Solaris and more GNU/Linux distributions include "Real Time Linux." One of the major concerns for Wall Street companies is the ability to be sure that they will be able to complete trades just as quickly as everyone else; a firm can lose millions to billions of dollars if they can't complete trades fast enough. Real Time Linux has been the answer to this concern. . . . Read more

Star Ocean Role-playing games are filled with mystery. It’s one of the driving forces that make them so compelling for players—not knowing what’s around the next corner and having no clue what’s coming up next or who you’re going to meet. A good RPG keeps you guessing and smoothly resolves as you go along, giving you a few hints, along with tidbits of information, useful items and beneficial gear, as you endeavor to keep yourself (and maybe a party of fellow adventurers) alive through battle afte . . . Microsoft has made the promise that it will never cancel the development of any game it has announced to the public, in a move that's obviously supposed to show up Sony's cancellation of the PS3 titles Eight Days and The Getaway.

Such a move by Microsoft could be termed as brave, and one supporting its Xbox 360 platform to its upmost - but also it could open us up to a barrage of sub-par titles, as internal policies stop poor games being cancelled before they hit retail.

Apparently it's becoming harder to come up with new ideas for games, or at least environments if "Limbo of the Lost" is any example. The reviewer at
gameplasma.com found multiple areas that were blatant ripoffs of areas found in Oblivion. Hopefully this won't be a growing trend in video games.

No more "when it's done" answers, the Mozilla Development Team finally set the date: June 17th is the day they're going to release Firefox 3. That's less than a week, folks!

Be sure you all download it on this day, as they want to break the world record of the most software downloads in 24 hours.

IBM and Los Alamos National Lab have broken the 1 petaflop barrier with their supercomputer, Roadrunner. This is the first supercomputer on the Top500 Linpack list to sustain 1 petaflop, making it the fastest computer in the world.

Let's put this in perspective: Roadrunner is twice as fast as BlueGene/L (Lawrence Livermore National Lab/IBM), and BlueGene is three times faster than the next fastest supercomputer, JUGENE (Forschungszentrum Juelich (FZJ)/IBM).

Okay so I lied. Here's another Jack Attack!

Despite all that has happened these few weeks, Jack has been chosen for an award at the America's Freedom Festival. Apperently, they are honoring Thompson for "fighting" for people's freedom. What people? Do they even have the right guy!?

Not only that, but the people running this festival of freedoms are republicans, the very same people Jack has attacked several times in the past for not liking his video game laws. What in the world is going o . . . Read more

So... for the official release of Firefox 3, they want to break the world record of the most software downloads in 24 hours. You know what that means...

Firefox junkies unite! Get anyone and everyone you can to download Firefox 3. Have a download party, hack into computers and download it for the hopeless, download at work, etc. I think you all get the idea.

The date is set for sometime in June... so keep your eyes and cable lines open!

Ladies, Gentleman, and pale-skinned gamers,

Call of Duty 5 is officially announced for the PC, 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, and PlayStation 2. It's set for Activision's current fiscal year, which means a release in the holiday or spring 2009 quarters. But what is this Call of Duty 5 about?

The next installment takes the player back to the time before Modern Warfare, back what Call of Duty was originally about: World War II. Much to the dismay of current gamers tired of . . . Read more

There has been a good deal of press lately about the $40 million in funding Turbine recently received. But what didn't get looked into deeply was who gave them that cash and why. If you follow the money, we think you'll find all roads lead to Hogwarts.

Turbine is a privately held gaming company that specializes in launching and maintaining games from well-known brands, Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons and Dragons Online, specifically. Time Warner is one of the new investment partners in . . . Read more

According to slashfilm.com, "Leonardo DiCaprio has signed on to star as Nolan Bushnell in Atari, a biopic about “the founding father of electronic gaming”, who was the inventor of Pong and founder of Atari."

I am a bit hesitant about this one (like I am with Prince of Persia). It's not that I don't think Leo can act or anything...but I just don't see how the creation of Atari can make for an interesting film.

I guess all we can do is wait and see if this will make us shudder/cry blood . . . Read more
